Romania: Former Energy minister, SocDem MP Constantin Nita prosecuted for influence peddling
Social-Democrat Constantin Nita, MP, a former energy minister in Victor Ponta’s Cabinet, is prosecuted by the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) under judicial control on bail for influence peddling.
He was at the DNA headquarters on Monday afternoon, where he was informed about the accusations.The prosecutors ordered the judicial control and a 60-day bail starting on April 25 and a bail of 150,000 lei, DNA informed in a release to AGERPRES.
The DNA prosecutors allege that in 2013, then-minister of energy Constantin Nita has asked a businessperson (the denouncer) an illegal commission of five percent of the value of a contract closed by the latter’s company with a municipality, in exchange for Nita’s influence upon the mayor.
