Moldova: City Hall’s eight employees, detained under the suspicion of corruption
A total of eight people, including the chief architect of Buiucani district of the capital, a specialist in the Directorate of Authorization and Discipline in Constructions, directors of two companies in Chisinau, have been detained by officers of the National Anti Corruption Center (NAC). They have conducted 18 searches this morning at the City Hall’s premises, within 35 criminal offenses aimed at corruption.
Angela Cibotaru Starinschi, press officer at the National Anticorruption Center, told Radio Moldova that it was about the Chisinau City Hall’s employees, representatives of local government, customs employees and businesses. They are under accusation of providing and charging different amounts of money to expedite actions of City Hall’s representatives on final acceptance of construction works.
Currently, 17 people have the status of suspect. Two employees of City Hall are accused of passive corruption and 15 other people (local government officials, representatives of businesses, individuals) – of active corruption.
They have been detained for 72 hours.
