Moldova: The former Director of Center for Forensic Medicine, to spend 30 days under arrest

The former director of the Center for Forensic Medicine (CFM), Ion Cuvsinov, has been placed under preventive arrest for a period of 30 days. The decision was taken on Friday, August 11, by magistrates of the Chişinău Court, Buiucani headquarters.

The decision to apply the arrest warrant was taken at the request of the anticorruption prosecutors. Also today, the judges are to decide on the application of the arrest warrant on behalf of Andrei Padure, the current deputy director of the CFM, suspected in the same case.

Recall that Ion Cuvsinov, Andrei Padure and a specialist from the institution were detained two days ago in the DNA testing lab case. The three are suspected of committing influence peddling, after they have rigged the auction for providing the equipment necessary for the laboratory where DNA tests were to be conducted.

Following his actions, the suspects would have caused the state budget a damage of about 10 million lei.
