UNODC: Meeting of Intergovernmental Working Groups on Prevention of Corruption and Asset Recovery

Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Prevention of Corruption and Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery gathered on 22 August in Vienna for their intersessional meetings at UNODC. Meetings will be organized by the Secretariat of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative had a pleasure of being represented at the events by Anti-Corruption Expert Tomislav Ćurić.

Seventh Intersessional Meeting of the open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Prevention of Corruption was held from 22 – 24 August and it focused on the use of information and communications technologies for the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption in order to facilitate public sector transparency and combat corruption; the protection of integrity in sport by promoting good governance in sport and mitigating the risk of corruption that sport faces. Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Asset Recovery will hold Tenth Intersessional Meeting on 25 and 26 August. The Meeting will be an opportunity for overview of progress made in the implementation of asset recovery mandates, as well as of challenges and good practices of asset recovery. Topics of discussions during the event will be states parties’ use of settlements and other alternative mechanisms, and good practices for identifying victims of corruption and parameters for their compensation. Participants of the Working Group will discuss capacity building and technical assistance in implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption with special focus on improving progress of asset recovery. For more information about this event, please visit the link.

At the end of the Meetings, participants will prepare a report which will be further used in the following Meetings of the two Working Groups.
